3 Stupid Gohma Akomaru Media Monster Jin Shiryuu Doushi Kaku Chouryou Mystery Mother Uncle & Fiance

The Gohma tell us that the age of ten is closest to Hell. I suppose it might be true, at least in the Dairanger Universe. When Kujaku was ten years old, her best friend was Gara. They did everything together. And then one day, while they were walking, a bunch of huge blocks fell down. Gara protected Kujaku with her own body, and ended up with a terrible scar on her cheek. She was so miserable about it, she hid and would not play with other girls. Perhaps they would not play with her either. Kujaku, seeing her best friend's misery, determined to do something to help her!

She went chasing a legend. The Peacock's Tears, an ancient artifact owned by the Peacock Buddha. Legend had it you could take only one drink from it, and that would heal you of all wounds, all scars. I believe only the outside wounds, though. The only way she could think of to be led to it, was to become a servant of the Peacock Buddha herself, so she dedicated every moment of her life to abandoning thought of herself, and to prayer. And the world tossed temptations and hazards her way, but she persevered. And then one day she opened her eyes and found her clothing had become that of the Peacock. And so she took that name, Peacock. Kujaku. And she went off to find the Peacock's Tears for Gara.

But she had started all this as a child, and never realized just how long it would take. It had taken fifteen to twenty years. And while she was gone, the Gohma had begun their attack. And Gara had become a Gohma. And her personal target was Kujaku. Foiled at every turn in her efforts to find the artifact, she also had to turn and fight in the crazy war. Eventually she fought Gara and sorely injured the other woman. She pursued until her enemy fell, but compassion ruled her, and she tried to dress Gara's injuries. And her old friend stared at her in shocked amazement and asked for water, praising Kujaku's beauty and kindness.

But when Kujaku took the water from the lake, she paused to admire her reflection in the water, vanity striking at the most inopportune moment. For when she paused to stare, she was caught within the Mirror Gohma. And Gara, whose injuries were either completely faked or not nearly as terrible as she had pretended, laughed and laughed. Kujaku swore revenge, but it didn't matter. And for six-thousand years she was imprisoned within that mirror. Long enough for anyone to go insane with boredom and a strong, righteous desire for revenge.

It was when Gara called the Mirror Gohma back in to the fray, that Kujaku got her chance. There was someone whose soul was open to her. Someone she reached in passing, without really knowing what was happening. And he freed her. But she had forgotten compassion and love during her long imprisonment, and the sight of Gara was enough to set her homing in with nothing in her mind but murder. And because of that she had a certain lack of concern for anyone else who might get in the way. Small children, large monsters, and the man who had freed her, Daigo. It took a combination of his perseverance and a little girl's compassion and kindness to put a crack in her rage. But by that time she had realized something was wrong. She was ill. When within her finally woke those deadened feelings of compassion, she stopped her pursuit of Gara and decided to return to her pursuit of the Peacock's Tears. And when she learned that the reason Gara had become a Gohma was because her best friend had disappeared without a word after she had been maimed saving the other child... Kujaku was overcome with the compassion and love that had led her to begin her search in the first place.

But all the pollutants and things in the world were killing Kujaku. Even if she took her one drink from the Peacock's Tears, she would only sicken again and die. So instead she used the artifact for Gara. And when she died, she went to Heaven.
