You know them, you love them. The staff of ORE Journal! What is ORE Journal? "Open Resource Evolution"! The baby of Daisuke Okubo (played by Kanji Tsuda), who is a mere stripling at the age of 36 and editor. He lives to be unconventional. He likes to be surrounded by the few eccentrics he's taken on. He encourages them, basically lets them go their own way. He had the ignoble experience of having Ore Journal briefly taken over by that snappy young computer hacker, Jun Shibaura. But he survived the experience with dignity merely ruffled. Under his loose hold are now four people.
Nanako Shimada who, at age twenty-three is his systems engineer and web-site designer. She's quite talented, adores computers and gets along better with them than with people. She also has a slight crush on Shinji.
Reiko Momoi (played by Sayaka Kuon) is a mere twenty-four years old. She's a dedicated journalist of the "where angels fear to tread" variety. She's not the type to put herself or anyone else in major danger when pursuing a story. Well, not anyone else at any rate. She pursues the vanished people with tenacity, even willing to consider the preposterous concept of mirrors having something to do with what's happening. She bearded the lion in his den when she went after Asakura! And got suckered by him into bringing his baby brother like a lamb to the slaughter. She is determinidly ignoring Kitaoka's attempts to court her. If he hadn't managed to alienate her so thoroughly the first few times they met, she might have given him a chance. She pursued the disappearing people and eventually discovered their connection with Shiro Kanzaki, AND his connection with the monsters AND the Mirror World. And then she discovered that Shinji was a Kamen Rider.
Then of course there is Shinji Kido himself. Our happy go-lucky hero has developed a grim and serious streak that led to Shimada at one point accusing him of being posessed and trying to shake the evil spirit out of him.
At present they have an extra on staff, a lovely young woman named Megumi Asano (played by Chisato Morishita), who was once secretary for Kitaoka. She very nearly got him to marry her by pretending to be dying. She also had the odd experience of watching Shinji walk out of a glass window once. She is a lot of trouble, and rakes Shimada's feathers the wrong way but they appear to be becoming friends. At any rate they successfully managed to drag Kitaoka and Goro off for an evening of drunken Karaoke recently, which was hilarious. She is a ditz, but she has a good heart and inside her is hidden a clever, intelligent woman. She is twenty-five years old but you couldn't tell. She wants to be a journalist.
Ore Journal was temporarily homeless. Kicked out of their offices for reporting on the existence of monsters inside reflections, Okubo temporarily settled at Atori Tea House, helping out with customers to make up for his use of an entire table and their electricity. Reiko went to America where she retrieved a death certificate for one Shiro Takami, who she's seen wandering about. She assigned the other girls to keep a close eye on Kitaoka, having accepted that he has some connection with these monsters in the reflections. The girls happend to find out he is dying of cancer, and this fact has been overpowering enough to make them believe it to be the cause of all his sudden disappearances. They've begun pushing Reiko to accept his requests for dates, but were sworn to secrecy about his cancer.
And I know how deeply they would be hurt if they'd found out that Shinji died.
Terebi Asahi has made their own fairly entertaining Ore Journal website. You can reach it at this url: Ore Journal Site.
