Note the non-purpleness of himThe Goraijer, who turned out to be a marvellous plot twist in the show. The Indigo is a Stag Beetle design and called 牙忍 Kibanin Kuwagata Raijar and uses a weapon called Stag Breaker. If you want to learn about Japanese Stag Beetles, click that link to what is a superb website by a Japanese enthusiast, and it's in English. The... um... wine red is called 角忍 Tsunonin Kabuto Raijar and uses a weapon probably called Horn Breaker. I am NOT calling that color purple. No way. In half the lighting it looks just like red. It's a Rhinocerus Beetle. Japanese name: Kabuto mushi Scentific name: Allomyrina dichotoma.

The two have in common a weapon called the Ikazuchi Maru, which is truly multi-functional. It can be assembled in a plus form 十字の型 Juujino Kata as well as a... er... ring form 円月の型 Engetsu no Kata. They can attach their personal weapons to it. They can also combine their personal weapons into a "Double Gadget". They also have motorcycles called 雷神 Raijin Machines, the Bari Thunders.

The Bari Thunders, creatively named Kabuto Type and KuwagaType.

霞一甲 Ikkou Kasumi 霞一鍬 Isshuu Kasumi

Ikki KasumiAnd the pair themselves. May I introduce the Kasumi brothers. 霞一甲 Ikkou Kasumi is the elder and Kabuto, and it seems well looked up to in the Ikazuchi Way school... before everyone was stolen away and killed. 霞一鍬 Isshuu Kasumi is the younger (Kuwaga) and used to have a great deal of pride bound up in defeating the Hurricanger. They are the sons of one 霞一鬼 Ikki Kasumi. One could say a nastier piece of work you'd never find, but that would not be accurate to describe the situation. "おなじ闇から生まれた勇者が勇者を倒すとき、アレが生まれる" "Only when the brave man born of the same darkness is defeated by the other, can we be born." Okay, that's probably not accurate. But he's a man who brutalized his small sons and trained them to fight, pounded into them an obsession to be the best by craft, cleverness and cold determination. And they obeyed him until they learned that he intended them to end by fighting each other (probably to the death). This is not so far-fetched, apparently this was pretty normal in Ninja history. The only way a ninja could prove that he had what it takes to be a leader is to be able to kill the partner whom he has probably been with since about age two. After a great deal of trouble and torment, the Kasumi brothers broke from their father's will and with much dragging of feet became allies of the Hurricanger. These days they've given up even the pretense of not being willing, and happily join the trio for lunches, and for New Years. Isshu and Nanami have an unspoken attachment which it would be fun to see evolve.

HISTORY of the Ikazuchi Way

During the Nara Era (end of 7th to 8th Century) some people could use special powers hidden in nature. (levitation, teleportation etc). By the Kamakura Era (13th Century), how to use these powers had become systemized. Two great schools had become the major players in the secret society. In 1495, during the Muromachi Era, The 疾風流 (fast wind) Hayate and 迅雷流 (fast thunder) Ikazuchi Way Schools had a competition presided over by the Emperor of Japan. Hayate School won and became the leading school of Ninja, leaving Ikazuchi to the dark and shadow ways.
