About his mighty-ship, Loki (or Rouki)

"Come and listen to a story 'bout an evil demon mask, poor little Aurg needed a host for its task. Then one day Shirogane put it on... and he beat the enemy and became a Duke Aurg!"

Sorry, I couldn't help it. Duke Aurg Loki. I'm not particularly clear on the befores. It seems that either he was contained or he formed as the mask, meant to be put on and take over the wearer. Whether it was that, this or another, I don't know. However, the Heian priestess Murasaki had the wolf mask in Gao's Rock and she knew what it could do. So did Shirogane when he took it to fight the enemy that had defeated Gao God.

In the wonderful world of nodding heads to realism, things were not as simple as they looked. Shirogane took on Loki's form before his mind was overwhelmed, but when it was, Loki attacked the Gaoranger viciously. He was still having trouble with himself, though, and when they contained him in a crypt he raged at them. And there passed a thousand (and probably forty or so) years before Ura released him.

Although Ura knew what he was releasing, he did not really know what might happen. Loki was a constant source of surprise for him. For us as well while we did not know his history. To me, Loki was one of those more extraordinary villains. He fought the Gaoranger, but on his terms only. He would not work for Ura. He gathered the Gaoranger orbs with indifference to the Highness' desire for them. When he found an injured Gao White, he cared for her and dressed her wounds without once pausing to question what he was doing. And then he went right out and fought them again without questioning.

It wasn't until he realized that there were strange discrepencies in his memories that he began to wonder about himself. Capturing Tetomu, he recognized her pendant. When she told him it was her grandmother Murasaki's, both of them wondered how he knew the stone. Tetomu named Loki her grandmother's enemy, but he was confused because his memories were different. He remembered her as being affectionate to him. This confusion did not stop him from fighting the Gaoranger or taking Yellow's orbs, but he intended to come talk to Tetomu about Murasaki again.

And we saw that Loki bled red, not the pale green foam Aurg usually bleed. Other things happened. A battle was going quite well for Loki, until Gao God appeared and demanded he remember. Loki sought to know what he should remember, confused by conflicting emotion. He just could not figure it out. Ura hinted at knowing the secrets buried in Loki's past, and successfully tricked him and took control of him. And the Gaoranger learned the secret from Tetomu, who saw it in dreams. The secret of Shirogane.

The Gaoranger were able to shatter the mask, seperating Loki and Shirogane. They thought it was over, but the mask reformed and Loki came to exist, and went after Shirogane to pay him back for allowing them to be trapped for a thousand plus years. Loki turned out to be enormously powerful, much to their surprise. They could only conclude that before his power had been diluted, enhancing Shirogane's three companion Power Animals. Now Loki had power only for himself and it was incredible. But Shirogane, now called Silver, was able to destroy him. It wasn't over yet. Ura used the mask and recreated Loki. This time, when the Gaoranger destroyed him, they destroyed the mask as well. But Loki's tremendous power remained and only needed a host. Ura kept calling it down to enhance Aurgs who were then destroyed. As the Aurg became more powerful, eventually the plan of attack changed. Ura, Tsue Tsue and Yaba-iba waylaid Silver under a full moon. Gao Wolf, responding to a thousand years of conditioning, summoned down the power it knew so well, and Ura sent that power into Silver. It was touch and go for a very, very long minute or two. Silver/Loki/Silver/Loki/Silver/Loki.... Silver. He won, rejecting the power that had grown so incredibly with each Aurg that had hosted it. And now Ura was at last able to summon that power to himself, as those bonds were shattered.

I think Loki might have been indignant to end his existence as a ball of power being shunted from one person to another. It does make you wonder just how much of Loki was Shirogane, and how much each being lost without the other. I guess neither would say they lost anything, but what the hey.
