The lovely woman on the left here is the Shaman Tetomu (played by a woman named Takemi who has also done a stint on a Sailor Moon stage show). Sorceress, maiden, temple virgin, whatever. She's the one who selected the five heroes, and taught them to use the will of the animals. She and the heroes live in Gao's Rock, a small mountain shaped like a turtle. The mountain can fly, though whether or not it has a mind of its own has not been mentioned. Where ever they go in it, it settles down as though it has been there forever, and somehow no one notices it. The animals live on the Sky-Island Animalium, also shaped like a turtle. It floats in the sky and no one sees it up there.

Each of our heroes has their own lovely, round ball (see Dairanger) they stick in the hilt of their dagger to call their Power Animals. The daggers look like this:

They all have this nifty belt-buckle.

When they join their individual weapons together they get this, which seems to be wielded by Gao Red, as he's the one who wears Gao Fang with is the only bit strong enough to hang on to the unwieldly beast! And of course, last but not least, they have the G-phone. When it is open like a portable phone, it is in Normal Mode. When it is standing on little legs, it is in Human Mode. And when it is running about like a miniature lion, it is in Power Animal mode.

But it was decided that the group doesn't have enough Mecha. So now has been added the Soul Bird, which started as a little, fuzzy, six-winged critter that looked vaguely like a penguin or a blue-bird. Pyon matured into it, and it is a wild and animated being! Oh, and below is the egg that hatched into Pyon.
